How To Prepare For Daylight Savings Time

On the first Sunday in November, we will prepare to change our clocks for daylight savings. The way I seem to remember this is during fall we fall back on hour, and during the spring we spring ahead one hour. However, falling back and springing forward one hour can disrupt your sleep patterns. It is always best to make a plan, and gradual change before you make the switch. Making a gradual change is not so detrimental to your health, and that extra hour you gain and the extra hour you lose in the spring will not come at a cost. How can we prepare for this switch so we can fall back instead of falling backwards unaware?

Here are some tips to help you prepare for daylight savings time

Utilize Daylight Exposure

Natural light has the most powerful effects on our bodies. Even on a rainy, snowy, cloudy day spending time outside helps you feel more awake. Using sun lamps to give off bright light that mimics the sun is also effective.

Prepare For The Change

Changing your sleep and wake-up times leading up to the Fall back of 2021 can be done gradually. Start with going to sleep 30 minutes later working up to a full. If your schedule allows for it do the same for your wake-up time.

Establish healthy habits

Limiting the amount of caffeine you drink in the evening is sure to not make it close to your bedtime. Finding a regular exercise routine is key to your metabolism. Choose some cardio and strength to boost the burn and to keep you energized and motivated.

Time To Wind Down

Take the time to wind down before going to bed. Turn off all electronics, have a cup of tea, and read a relaxing book.

It seems like gaining an extra hour of sleep is good but, it all depends on who you ask. Yet, preparing yourself for the change gives your body time to adjust to falling back an hour and springing forward in the spring. After a week or more our bodies shall adjust to the time change. If you are getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep, you should wake up feeling refreshed.

Self-Awareness And Why We Need It

Welcome to September! I hope that everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend. Labor Day means the celebrating of social and economic achievement for all U.S workers in America. Also, it seems that Labor day marks the end of summer, and for some of us who like to wear white, the rule is no more wearing white after this weekend. Distinguishing between the old money elites and the new money groups, any-who. Out with the whites and in with the fall colors. Some of us may be consumed with changing our summer to fall wardrobes, but have you thought about how we should look at our self-awareness when we change seasons and our clothes? During the pandemic, you may have heard many people including myself talk about self-care. Now we must bring to the forefront the new buzzword self-awareness.

Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself more confident and understand your motives and desires. Although most people believe that they are self-aware of themselves, but this may not be the case always. It is difficult to see and understand why you behave in a particular way. However, once you are of aware of your behavior, then you can become more self-aware. Self-awareness allows you to create the life you want for yourself. Having clarity about who you are and what you want is empowering. This will give you the right motivation to make a change.

My self-awareness is to monitor my own emotions and reactions. Monitoring my strengths, weakness and my triggers. We all have those triggers and my reactions and how I respond to them is important. I have learned to set boundaries with work and in my personal life to not set off specific trigger when then occur. This took me some time too, and also being open to receiving feedback from valued individuals. Being self aware is a rare quality, and in order to become a good leader for yourself you must first become self aware of who you are.

Take a look at why you becoming self-aware is important, and the benefits of why you need it: first, you will become a better leader. Secondly, it helps to strengthen personal and work relationships through your emotions. Lastly, improving skills by what you do well. Learning to become self-aware is not always easy, but let’s explore some ways on how you can benefit from self-awareness.

Keep An Open Mind – Being open-minded is learning to accept your mistakes, and changing your mindset to make improvements. Understanding other’s points of view without making you feeling frustrated will help you understand and develop your self-awareness.

Be Mindful Of Your Strength and Weakness – Being mindful of your strengths and weakness is to keep an open mind.

Set Boundaries – Set strong boundaries in place, and know when to say no. Saying no does not mean that you will not do it at some other time, but it means that now is not a good time.

Know Your Triggers – Self-aware individuals can identify their emotions and reactions. You don’t have to deny your emotions, yet you must be mindful of how you react and communicate to situations. Having the ability to recognize what triggers you through self-awareness. Set down and make a plan, here is an example: delete apps, taking a break from social media, turn off your phone after 7:00 p.m, avoid toxic environments and people.

Practice Self-Care – Self-care is important in setting and maintaining boundaries as you need to make yourself a priority. This will help with boundary setting which is a part of self-care.

Mid-Year Goal Checks

This is the time of year when you should be in a reflective mood. We are halfway through 2021, and now is the time to revisit the goals that we set at the beginning of the year. It’s easy to lose sight of our goals as they get buried under clutter. Mental and Physical clutter from our constant day-to-day distractions.

If your set goals at the beginning of the year and you and you are sticking with them, great! If you are not it’s okay too. When we set goals at the beginning of the year think of your goals like your GPS. When we use our GPS we enter our starting location where we are, then we enter our destination where we are going. Yet, if you go off course just like your GPS it begins to calculate a new route or reroute you back on course until you reach your final destination. Let’s think of our goals like our GPS and sit down and think about where we were going. If you didn’t make your goal it’s never too late to reroute and reset your beginning of the year goals. We are only mid-year and we still have time to reach our goals. Let’s get back on track with your goals and focus on positivity and getting back into a routine. Start with these five mid-year goal check reset tips:

Revisit Your Goals – Revisit your goals and see what is working for you and what is not working. Perhaps some things need to change and that is okay. Write an action plan on how you will achieve that change and where you see your future goals.

Set a Mid-Year Budget – Now is a good time to plan for the rest of the year. If you like to set aside some extra funds for the upcoming holidays now is a great time to start. Before you know it the holidays will be upon us.

Vision Boards – Get inspired by creating a vision board for the remainder of 2021. These are some great visionary activities that can inspire you to think about projects, exercise, and self-care. You may even want to focus on keywords that you would like to use (self-care, boundaries, etc). Make it your process, there are no rules to what you want for your future vision.

Declutter – Decluttering is always about throwing out things, its’ about knowing what is working for you. This is the time to remove any used apps on your computer, phone, or tablet. Organize your filing system for important documents. Donate items in your space or closet that we are no longer using.

Focus On Your Self-Care – Think about what is working in your self-care routine. Are we staying hydrated enough throughout the day? Drinking plenty of fluids help keep your body hydrated throughout the day. Take 15-20 minutes in your day to realign your energies to what you need. Making yourself a priority is essential.

Believe In Yourself

Believe In Yourself, that you have what it takes. Believe you have the power to put your mind to anything. When you believe in yourself you can overcome any self-doubt and have the confidence to take action and get things done. 

 Self-belief is the starting point at which you will succeed.  Always think positive and kill negative self-talk which will kill any opportunity for you to believe in yourself.  To see bigger goals and to visualize them is one way to create success.  It is unbelievable how powerful you can become when you have a clear vision of yourself.  No matter what our circumstances maybe if you can imagine or visualize something better for yourself by believing in yourself then you can create it. 

No one is perfect so don’t worry about making mistakes, sometimes we can become our own worse enemy.  Transform any negative thoughts that you may have into positive thoughts of opportunity for growth.  Understand yourself first, while defining yourself on your terms and become your own best friend.  Believe In Yourself that what you want is always possible.

Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful

Our thoughts & attitude in which we greet the day will say a great deal how our day will be. When you start you day with positive thoughts, love, peace & openness we put the universe on alert we want more of the same.

What is the true definition of beauty? Beauty is something that most people look upon as physical or what we see from the media. The media shows us that we all must look perfect, and this can effect your mood I think we spend too much time thinking about what people think about us and how they see us. I am guilty of this also, as I too worry about what people think about me and how they see me. However, beauty is what you feel inside and the confidence you have within yourself. Our inner beauty can not be seen but resides inside ourselves.

A simple smile will brighten your appearance and put you on the path of positive thinking. Research has shown that having a pleasant happy expression is a sign of happiness and translates to a positive mood. Positive thinking gives you a healthy radiant glow. Whatever the mind thinks is what the mind expects.

I just want to encourage you to be your own kind of beautiful by remaining positive, confident, and staying true to your beliefs. it’s not what society thinks, BEAUTIFUL is what is beautiful is to you. Beautiful is in the eye of the beholder, and for myself, beauty is about living life the way you want to and enjoying it.

The Law of Attraction

Self-Care for fighting the winter blues

What we give out will be returned to you, it is called the Law of Attraction. When you get rid of negative thoughts, attitudes and limit bad behaviors you can begin to create a space for the things that you will desire. Focus and energized the good things in order to achieve the outcome of what you want. Take time each morning to write down things that you are grateful for. It’s so easy to focus on the negative, but focusing on the positive can greatly improve our prospective and mood. It may be hard, but it’s not magic either, try and see it will work!

Our thoughts can sometimes be effected by the seasons. When the weather is cold outside it’s hard to remain positive, happy and cheerful at times. I took this picture on a cold snowy morning in Illinois. The temperatures where in the negatives and we just received another 6 to 8 inches of snow. Many people like myself can suffer from the winter blues. In order to not let the weather effect my thoughts, I decided to take off the flannel pajamas that I had on. Put on a tank top and some cute bottoms, lightening up my room with a bright yellow comforter and envision that spring is around the corner. Other things that I tried were changing out my lamp shades for a more natural out door light, or you can invest in a light box if your space is small. Lastly, keep active as I love to work out, it helps to reduce stress and depression. I’ll talk about my working out in another post as I will share my journey to a more healthier lifestyle. However, have no fear these are manageable ups and downs that come with the changing season.

The Law Of Attraction tells us we can consciously choose our life experiences by thinking and feeling positively, we can change our realities for the better. We are all capable of change through repetition and practice. I have listed some tips that I practice to help me focus my energy in a positive direction when waking up in the morning and throughout the day. Start off small so that you don’t become over whelmed with trying to focus on too many things at once. More positive thinking will allow you the freedom to feel much happier and experience a different level of joy through out your day.
