How To Fight Winter Fatigue And Stay Motivated

Fighting winter fatigue and staying motivated is challenging.   Understanding how fatigue catches up to us is essential.

Fighting winter fatigue which I have been suffering with in addition to staying motivated has become challening. Especially when the weather is snowy and dreary outside. How can we stop fatigue before it starts and keep our motivation for work, life and family. First understanding how fatigue catches up to us is essential. The top of my list is still processing the pandemic and the after effects it has and continues on. The recovery of COVID going around, and how the energy level begins to shift also known as fatigue after covid. Covid fatigue can make you feel tired, takeway your energy, and your motivation to get things done. Then we move into the holidays for those of us who had a small gatherings with family and friends. Although our gatherings are much smaller the celebrations might feel more exhausting than usual. Soon after December comes with a busy time for shopping and socializing. Before you know it you will feel like you are running on a treadmill incline until you run out of steam.

Fatigue definition is overtired, with low energy and a strong desire to sleep that interferes with normal daily activities. The most common fatigue causes are lifestyle due to lack of sleep, lack of exercise, and work stress. Which leads many of us to become less motivated to complete everyday tasks. The questions becomes how do we fight fatigue and stay motivated? Here are a few tips on how to combat fatigue and stay motivated.

  • Eating a healthy diet
  • Exercise
  • Getting more rest
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Light therapy lamps
  • Vitamin D


  • Plan and proritize each day each morning or night with a list of things you want to accomplish for the day. This will help you with being realistic about what you are able to accomplish during the day. Prioritize list from what is important to tackle those items first. Lastly, at the end of the day take a look at what you have accomplished and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Motivation starts with our mental state of mind, and having the willpower to do it.

Regardless of the weather it is still important to focus on your goals. Having a purpose usually brings a sense of fulfillment. Purpose will motivate you to think about what is important you. So, take advantage of the winter season to act on those things that you want to do for yourself, and continue to stay encouraged and motivated.

How To Prepare For Daylight Savings Time

On the first Sunday in November, we will prepare to change our clocks for daylight savings. The way I seem to remember this is during fall we fall back on hour, and during the spring we spring ahead one hour. However, falling back and springing forward one hour can disrupt your sleep patterns. It is always best to make a plan, and gradual change before you make the switch. Making a gradual change is not so detrimental to your health, and that extra hour you gain and the extra hour you lose in the spring will not come at a cost. How can we prepare for this switch so we can fall back instead of falling backwards unaware?

Here are some tips to help you prepare for daylight savings time

Utilize Daylight Exposure

Natural light has the most powerful effects on our bodies. Even on a rainy, snowy, cloudy day spending time outside helps you feel more awake. Using sun lamps to give off bright light that mimics the sun is also effective.

Prepare For The Change

Changing your sleep and wake-up times leading up to the Fall back of 2021 can be done gradually. Start with going to sleep 30 minutes later working up to a full. If your schedule allows for it do the same for your wake-up time.

Establish healthy habits

Limiting the amount of caffeine you drink in the evening is sure to not make it close to your bedtime. Finding a regular exercise routine is key to your metabolism. Choose some cardio and strength to boost the burn and to keep you energized and motivated.

Time To Wind Down

Take the time to wind down before going to bed. Turn off all electronics, have a cup of tea, and read a relaxing book.

It seems like gaining an extra hour of sleep is good but, it all depends on who you ask. Yet, preparing yourself for the change gives your body time to adjust to falling back an hour and springing forward in the spring. After a week or more our bodies shall adjust to the time change. If you are getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep, you should wake up feeling refreshed.

Discovering Your Purpose

When things have served their purpose it will go away. If you try and hold on to it, it will no longer fulfill your purpose. When you find that your peace is being disturbed let it go. Often I sit and think about why I was placed on this earth, and what I’m currently doing is fulfilling my purpose in life? We all like to wake up in the morning, being motivated, happy, and successful. I think that we can agree that we would like to seek a life of purpose. Yet, sometimes it is hard to be fulfilled and know if your purpose in life is being met. It is my belief that we are all here to have a definite purpose in life. However, discovering it can be the difficult task, but what I have learned is discovering it may be made by trial and error.

For myself, like many others, I get caught up in the daily routine of what I do as a creature of habit. Rather than a purpose-driven being of motivation that drives you to do things in your life. Discovering your purpose is the most important thing that you will do in your life that is the driving force that will lead you to all of your accomplishments and achievements. This will provide you with the motivation that will drive you to achieve the goals that you set for yourself to live your life to the fullest.

Discovering your purpose is definitely like the long journey that you follow throughout your life. Your purpose is defining by something that you are truly passionate about. It gets you excited or your juices flowing just the thought of pursuing it. I discovered after working in accounting for several years, that I wanted to go back to school and pursue my MSW. Many individuals told me that social workers didn’t make any money and the field was a burnout. However, once I became a case manager and I continue to work with people with disabilities I discovered the passion of advocacy, research, and helping other vulnerable individuals. It felt right and I knew that I was making a difference in the life of others and I also made a difference in my life. Learning to appreciate all the wonderful things that I had in my life that I often took for granted helped me discover my purpose. Everyone has a unique destiny for contributing to this world using their unique blend of talents and passions. Let’s take a look at how you can start discovering your purpose.

Do What You Love

Do what you love if that is gardening, home decorating, party planning, or teaching kids out to swim make time to do it. When you find that you are doing something that you love, you are fill will joy. What’s better than doing something you love than something that you don’t.

Be Thankful

Without even realizing it we take the basic things in our life. I learned this during the pandemic, so it’s really easy for me now to be thankful. Although I should have been thankful anyway without a pandemic happening. By appreciating what you have in your life makes it that much easier to bring a sense of happiness.

Find Ways To Manage Stress

You deserve to be happy and live in your true purpose. Finding ways to manage stress can get in the way of your true happiness. Practicing meditation, yoga, and exercise can help you manage stress and feel better.

Be Yourself

Don’t waste time living the life of someone else, it’s easy to look around us and think we want other people’s life. However, we don’t know if that person is truly happy or what they went through to have the life you think you would desire. Be yourself accept who you are and you will see the world in a different light.

Help Others

If you can make a meaningful contribution to help others take some time to volunteer or help others. It feels good to help others and be of service to them. The impact that you will make on someone else’s life will make you fulfilling.

Self-Awareness And Why We Need It

Welcome to September! I hope that everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend. Labor Day means the celebrating of social and economic achievement for all U.S workers in America. Also, it seems that Labor day marks the end of summer, and for some of us who like to wear white, the rule is no more wearing white after this weekend. Distinguishing between the old money elites and the new money groups, any-who. Out with the whites and in with the fall colors. Some of us may be consumed with changing our summer to fall wardrobes, but have you thought about how we should look at our self-awareness when we change seasons and our clothes? During the pandemic, you may have heard many people including myself talk about self-care. Now we must bring to the forefront the new buzzword self-awareness.

Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself more confident and understand your motives and desires. Although most people believe that they are self-aware of themselves, but this may not be the case always. It is difficult to see and understand why you behave in a particular way. However, once you are of aware of your behavior, then you can become more self-aware. Self-awareness allows you to create the life you want for yourself. Having clarity about who you are and what you want is empowering. This will give you the right motivation to make a change.

My self-awareness is to monitor my own emotions and reactions. Monitoring my strengths, weakness and my triggers. We all have those triggers and my reactions and how I respond to them is important. I have learned to set boundaries with work and in my personal life to not set off specific trigger when then occur. This took me some time too, and also being open to receiving feedback from valued individuals. Being self aware is a rare quality, and in order to become a good leader for yourself you must first become self aware of who you are.

Take a look at why you becoming self-aware is important, and the benefits of why you need it: first, you will become a better leader. Secondly, it helps to strengthen personal and work relationships through your emotions. Lastly, improving skills by what you do well. Learning to become self-aware is not always easy, but let’s explore some ways on how you can benefit from self-awareness.

Keep An Open Mind – Being open-minded is learning to accept your mistakes, and changing your mindset to make improvements. Understanding other’s points of view without making you feeling frustrated will help you understand and develop your self-awareness.

Be Mindful Of Your Strength and Weakness – Being mindful of your strengths and weakness is to keep an open mind.

Set Boundaries – Set strong boundaries in place, and know when to say no. Saying no does not mean that you will not do it at some other time, but it means that now is not a good time.

Know Your Triggers – Self-aware individuals can identify their emotions and reactions. You don’t have to deny your emotions, yet you must be mindful of how you react and communicate to situations. Having the ability to recognize what triggers you through self-awareness. Set down and make a plan, here is an example: delete apps, taking a break from social media, turn off your phone after 7:00 p.m, avoid toxic environments and people.

Practice Self-Care – Self-care is important in setting and maintaining boundaries as you need to make yourself a priority. This will help with boundary setting which is a part of self-care.

Mid-Year Goal Checks

This is the time of year when you should be in a reflective mood. We are halfway through 2021, and now is the time to revisit the goals that we set at the beginning of the year. It’s easy to lose sight of our goals as they get buried under clutter. Mental and Physical clutter from our constant day-to-day distractions.

If your set goals at the beginning of the year and you and you are sticking with them, great! If you are not it’s okay too. When we set goals at the beginning of the year think of your goals like your GPS. When we use our GPS we enter our starting location where we are, then we enter our destination where we are going. Yet, if you go off course just like your GPS it begins to calculate a new route or reroute you back on course until you reach your final destination. Let’s think of our goals like our GPS and sit down and think about where we were going. If you didn’t make your goal it’s never too late to reroute and reset your beginning of the year goals. We are only mid-year and we still have time to reach our goals. Let’s get back on track with your goals and focus on positivity and getting back into a routine. Start with these five mid-year goal check reset tips:

Revisit Your Goals – Revisit your goals and see what is working for you and what is not working. Perhaps some things need to change and that is okay. Write an action plan on how you will achieve that change and where you see your future goals.

Set a Mid-Year Budget – Now is a good time to plan for the rest of the year. If you like to set aside some extra funds for the upcoming holidays now is a great time to start. Before you know it the holidays will be upon us.

Vision Boards – Get inspired by creating a vision board for the remainder of 2021. These are some great visionary activities that can inspire you to think about projects, exercise, and self-care. You may even want to focus on keywords that you would like to use (self-care, boundaries, etc). Make it your process, there are no rules to what you want for your future vision.

Declutter – Decluttering is always about throwing out things, its’ about knowing what is working for you. This is the time to remove any used apps on your computer, phone, or tablet. Organize your filing system for important documents. Donate items in your space or closet that we are no longer using.

Focus On Your Self-Care – Think about what is working in your self-care routine. Are we staying hydrated enough throughout the day? Drinking plenty of fluids help keep your body hydrated throughout the day. Take 15-20 minutes in your day to realign your energies to what you need. Making yourself a priority is essential.

How To Grow, Evolve and Reinvent Yourself

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer thus far, and we are finally getting back to some type of normalcy with our lives. I can say that I am happy to be out of the house and spending some quality time with family and friends again. If the pandemic has thought you one thing is that you must not take life for granted. Everyone will look back on this as a life-changing experience or not. However, experiences are what shapes our very character, our foundation for the future. Without them, we’d become empty shells without any substance.

This past year I finalized my divorced, sold my house, relocated to another area, started a new job, and continued to raise a teenage son. Talk about what an experience, and how I wish I could change particular things I did during that time. Yes, the things that suffered were my self-care routines, boundary setting, and settling for less than, which became a part of my daily life at that time. Before I knew it unwanted things that would not normally be a part of my life were, until I made a change. I soon begin to realized after regrets that I could not go back and change the beginning, but I could rewrite my ending as often as I would like. The goal is to keep growing from your experiences, evolving, and reinventing yourself. Reinventing yourself is not a betrayal of your essence, but essence of courage and strength.

Remember that family and friends are expecting you to stay the same. Yet, you have to trust that you are making the best decision for loving who you are. Toss out the old and in with the new. Try these three helpful tips that do not have to be difficult. Whatever your experience or motivation will be big or small take one day at a time.

How To Reinvent Yourself at any age

Self Care – As you begin to reinvent yourself your old self-care routines may change, so you may find that you want to do something new. Self-care does not always mean spas and bubble baths, however, you can just enjoy reading a book, yoga, or gardening in your yard. Find a hobby that you enjoy and turn it into your new self-care routine.

Manage Your Finances – If you are shifting or thinking about changing a career it is always best to take a look at your finances. If you are going through a divorce or moving to a new home, there is no better time to re-evaluate your finances. You may have to pay out extra expenses and you would like to be prepared than not prepared.

Create A Vision – Your vision can be created through any path. Think about things that you pride yourself in and follow that path. Yet, don’t think that this will be your final destination and you may find that you will change your vision again as we continue to grow, learn and experience different things throughout life.

Failure is normal when trying something new recognize it, learn from it, and move on. Failure in the end is the best way to learn how to evolve and reinvent yourself. It will take time, patience, and plenty of effort to make the change you want to see happen, but it will be all worth it in the end.

Believe In Yourself

Believe In Yourself, that you have what it takes. Believe you have the power to put your mind to anything. When you believe in yourself you can overcome any self-doubt and have the confidence to take action and get things done. 

 Self-belief is the starting point at which you will succeed.  Always think positive and kill negative self-talk which will kill any opportunity for you to believe in yourself.  To see bigger goals and to visualize them is one way to create success.  It is unbelievable how powerful you can become when you have a clear vision of yourself.  No matter what our circumstances maybe if you can imagine or visualize something better for yourself by believing in yourself then you can create it. 

No one is perfect so don’t worry about making mistakes, sometimes we can become our own worse enemy.  Transform any negative thoughts that you may have into positive thoughts of opportunity for growth.  Understand yourself first, while defining yourself on your terms and become your own best friend.  Believe In Yourself that what you want is always possible.

How To Stop Multi-tasking To Find Balance

Multi-tasking seems like a great way to get a lot of things done. For myself, I know that I try to juggle many different tasks in a day, and sometimes I don’t seem like I’ve accomplished anything by the end of the day. However, are our brains equipped to handle multiple tasks at a time? Multi-tasking seems like a great way to get a lot of things done. Yet, some research has suggested that multi-tasking can reduce our productivity by 40%. Did you know with all of the multi-tasking that we do it is likely to take a toll on our mental health? I know I continue to beat the self-care drum as we need reminders to make ourselves a priority.

My environment continues to be disruptive, with the phone ringing, message alerts, likes and comments, and co-workers emailing about things that are wrong at the job. In my opinion, this is designed in my life to get me to do more work and spend less time to be mentally present at home. All these distractions result in multi-tasking switching from one event to another, or one crisis to another. How can we begin to find the balance to stop multi-tasking where you are not completely exhausted by the end of the day.

Many days I wonder why I was so tired, soon I realize that multi-tasking also known as switch tasking was depleting all of my energy resources. You know that this is not a good way to get things done, yet the demands for our attention exist and our productivity reduces. What can we do to be more productive in our lives and find balance by minimizing multi-tasking? Below I wanted to share some tips that I started to incorporate into my life, I’m still a work in progress. However, I have found that I am not trying to juggle as many tasks as I have before by making these changes.

Ways to find balance, increase productivity without multi-tasking

Plan Your Day – When you don’t have a plan, this is when your day will plan you. It is difficult to stay focus on what needs to be done first when you don’t have a plan. When you have a plan your brain knows exactly what is want to accomplish and subconsciously prepares you to focus on the task at hand. You are less likely to be distracted and will minimize the need to multi-task.

Focus On One Task At A Time – It is difficult to focus on one task at a time when you are use to juggling multiple things. The benefit of focusing on one task at a time is making fewer mistakes at home and work. You will get more done and feel less tired at the end of the day. Make a list of things that you would like to get done, begin at the top and don’t start another task until the first one is completed.

Learn To Say No – Saying No does not mean that you are being rude. However, it does mean that you are not committing to things that you can not do, or you are simply delaying saying yes. Often times I have found that I may have said Yes to someone without really thinking about it. Later to discover that I have used an absorbent amount of energy trying to figure out how to get out of the commitment. By delaying your response allows you the opportunity to think about it, rather than having you worry if you will have the time to commit to another task.

Getting Enough Rest– Throughout my blog, I talk often about getting enough rest. When you are tired, your brain has less strength to resist things that can take away your attention. You will find your mind wandering, less focused and this is a sign for you to give your brain a rest. When you rest well your brain is fully recharged and ready to focus for the day.

Every once in a while we are required to multi-task, just as I was writing my 16-year-old son walked in and begin to talk about what he needs for the day, and my phone has sent me some alerts. So here I am finishing up this last bit of my blog post. Sometimes, it’s impossible to resist a little multi-tasking.

Self-Care After The Pandemic

We have been dealing with COVID-19 for over a year, and the end is now in sight. Have you thought about how you will continue your self-care routines once you return to your normal life? A year of COVID-19 limbo turned self-care into a mainstream pursuit. Everyone had to stop and come up with a daily plan on how they would go from going to the gym to working out at home, working in the office to working from home, and kids attending school to online learning. Whoa what a past year this has been, now we are back to reversing our plans from home to office, from indoors to outdoors to our kids transitioning back to in-person learning for the fall. Many people have become accustomed to the lives that they built around COVID. I like to say, COVID man caves or COVID she sheds. Are you ready to return to normal?

As we return to a new normal we can not overlook some of the damage that the pandemic has caused to our physical and mental health. National surveys show that many adults, teens, and children experienced psychological distress from the pandemic. According to the Mental Health of America, 1.5 million reported signs of anxiety and/or depression” as two of the leading signs of burden due to COVID. The impact of the pandemic has shown how a disruption in our lives can affect so many things. As we slowly return to normalcy self-care for the sake of our mental health is essential. For people who were able to make positive changes during the pandemic hold on to that positive change! Let’s take a look at how we can ease back into everyday life while keeping our self-care a priority without sending our bodies into shock. Gradual steps are needed for this transition.

Brainstorm on how you can incorporate things that you love back into your life. Resetting your self-care routine once you return to work, school, and everyday life is important. Yet, for some people practicing self-care will look different. Self-care is about giving ourselves what we need to be our best selves and setting up healthy goals and boundaries. Choose the way you want to treat yourself and spend time with yourself this will help you prioritize your well-being. Permit yourself to make you a priority.

After seven days evaluate – After seven days evaluate what worked for you and what didn’t. Use this as a positive reflection of feelings and the benefits of your accomplishments for the week.

Make adjustments as you go – It is okay to make adjustments as you go, if you see that this will work better then make the change. There is no need to wait just do it.

Sleep when you are tired – This is a hard one for me, I like to keep going until everything is finished. However, getting more sleep makes you better equipped to deal with things going on in your ever-changing life. Sometimes, that’s all it takes is sleep.

Be kind to yourself – Getting into a routine after a year is difficult, and finding out what will work for you will take some time. Being kind to yourself is paramount to any good self-care routine. Although our daily stressors will not completely disappear, finding a way to manage them with a continuous self-care routine is essential. Let’s continue to make our self-care a priority to cope with life’s ongoing changes.

Self-Love To Stop You From Settling For Less

We are slowly coming out of this pandemic, I am hopeful that the discovery of self-love continues to be a priority for many people. When we continue to love ourselves we will not settle for less in our work, personal relationships, and at home. I have learned throughout my journey that many times I have settled for less because it was comfortable. I would say settling has served its purpose in times when you need it, because you may not have the energy for anything new. Why do so many people settle? I have settled because I forgot some truths about my life and I stopped loving who I was as a person. When your truth does not guide you all hell breaks loose. When you find yourself sacrificing your self-love for comfort you will be in the same place mentally, physically, and emotionally.

For many people, self-love and settling will not come in the same sentence. These are just two things that we don’t think about at the same time. However, many psychologists will attest to self-love and settling are the key components to our mental health and well-being. Why is self-love so important? Self-love is important as it helps motivate you to make healthy choices in life. When you hold yourself to a higher standard you are less likely to settle for things that don’t nurture your well-being or serve you. One of the many benefits of self-love is having a positive mindset. A positive mindset is essential for success in life. This does not mean that you will feel happy every day, that’s unrealistic but it does mean that you can take some steps towards healthy habits without self-sabotaging yourself. Maybe now is the time to embrace self-love so you can stop settling for less in your life.

Stay in tune to what you want big or small. Talk with family or friends who have the same goals or values that you have. Say it out loud, put it out to the universe and you will get it back from the people that will support you.

Recognize that being alone is perfectly fine. When you settle for less you will get lousy friendships, lovers or business partners just to find your are truly alone. Accept being alone now, so you can get something better later.
